‘Why the Delay?’ Aleema Khan Calls for Imran Khan’s Immediate Conviction

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, has urged a swift resolution to the Al-Qadir Trust case, asserting that the judiciary’s credibility hangs in the balance, Express News reported.

Speaking to reporters outside the Islamabad High Court, she criticized the delay in the verdict. “The judge has thoroughly heard the case. Why is the decision still pending?” she questioned.

Aleema dismissed claims that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was relying on U.S. President-elect Donald Trump for support. “Has PTI pinned hopes on Trump? Why ask this repeatedly? Imran Khan hasn’t spent 18 months in jail waiting for him,” she remarked.

She emphasized that her brother’s imprisonment was a testament to his commitment to proving his innocence. “Credit should be given to him for facing these challenges,” she added.

Calling the Al-Qadir Trust case baseless, Aleema alleged that PTI was only enduring endless court appearances. She also criticized the lack of access granted to journalists reporting on Khan’s prison conditions.

Aleema urged the judiciary to announce the verdict immediately. “We pray for a decision tomorrow. The judiciary is on trial here, not Imran Khan. Some judges will pass this test, others will fail,” she stated.

She suggested the verdict was predetermined, questioning delays in its announcement. “If acquittal was to happen, it should’ve been on day one. If a judge delivers a biased or wrongful ruling, the media will hold them accountable,” she said.

Aleema claimed Imran Khan had relayed a message indicating that the verdict was initially expected on December 23, then January 6, and that details had already leaked. She accused authorities of stalling the verdict to pressure Khan into a compromise.

Citing her brother’s stance, she said Khan has called for impartial investigations into the events of May 9 and November 26. “Those guilty, whether from PTI or not, should face justice,” she quoted him.

She also accused authorities of detaining individuals without evidence. “We’re dragged to court, but no investigator has ever presented evidence against us,” she noted.

Aleema denied any backdoor deals but confirmed PTI had formed a committee to engage with the government. “Dialogue doors were never shut, but Khan has set two specific conditions,” she said without elaborating.

When asked about a reported meeting between PTI leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur, and Army Chief General Asim Munir, she welcomed the development, saying, “If such a meeting occurred, it’s a positive step.”

Aleema further stated that donors continue to support PTI-affiliated organizations such as Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and Namal University despite ongoing legal battles.

The Al-Qadir Trust case involves allegations of financial benefits granted to Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in exchange for legal favors to a real estate tycoon. Khan denies the charges, claiming they are politically motivated.
