ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Tuesday that the government will unveil the Ramazan Relief Package this year without involving Utility Stores Corporation (USC), aiming to avoid corruption and the distribution of substandard goods.
In his opening remarks at the federal cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister explained that last year’s complaints about the USC’s handling of the Ramazan Package led to the decision. He emphasized that the Ministry of National Food Security would design the package without the USC to ensure better quality and transparency.
The Prime Minister also directed urgent steps to operationalize Gwadar Port commercially. A committee, chaired by Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, was formed to collaborate with stakeholders and enhance the port’s functionality. To raise awareness about Gwadar Port’s significance, the government is planning an international conference. The port is strategically located to provide cost-effective access to the Persian Gulf, boosting trade with Central Asia and China.
The meeting also discussed ongoing public welfare projects in Gwadar, including the Pak-China Friendship Hospital, a technical education institute, and a solar park. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of improving infrastructure, with key road projects such as the Gwadar-Quetta Highway and Gwadar Safe City under development.
Prime Minister Sharif also honored the sacrifices of security personnel, especially the police officer martyred in a recent polio vaccination security operation. He acknowledged efforts in combating terrorism and enhancing national security.
Additionally, the Prime Minister highlighted the recent drop in inflation to 2.4% and praised the government’s efforts to control it. He credited the team, including Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and others, for their hard work.
Shehbaz Sharif also mentioned the signing of a $1.2 billion oil agreement with Saudi Arabia and a $40 million water supply project in Mansehra. Lastly, he urged the nation to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day, emphasizing Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiri people.
