Oscars 2025 Faces Setback Due to LA Fires

The 2025 Oscars nominations have been delayed due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles and surrounding California areas. Many celebrities, including Miles Teller, Anthony Hopkins, Adam Brody, Leighton Meester, and Anna Faris, have lost their homes in the Pacific Palisades region, which has been heavily affected by the fires.

The fires, which have been raging since Tuesday morning, have destroyed around 1,000 structures and scorched 15,832 acres of land, according to KTLA 5.

As a result of the disaster, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the Oscar nominations, initially set for January 17, will now be revealed on January 19. The voting period, which began on January 3, will also be extended until January 14, pushing back the original end date of January 1.

The Academy released a letter expressing condolences to those impacted by the fires, acknowledging that many members and industry professionals are affected. The statement also provided updates on changes to the nominations voting window and other Oscar-related events, such as the shortlist screenings and bake-offs, along with information about the Academy Museum.
