Federal Ombudsman Urges Swift Resolution of AJK Residents’ Complaints
Muzaffarabad:
On Wednesday, Federal Ombudsman Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi called on the heads of federal agencies in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to prioritize the quick resolution of public complaints in the region.
Qureshi made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the Wafaqi Mohtasib’s regional office in Muzaffarabad, the capital of AJK. He emphasized the office’s proactive outreach efforts, which have encouraged more citizens to seek assistance with their grievances.
He highlighted a significant increase in both the receipt and resolution of complaints in 2024. A total of 226,372 complaints were filed, with 223,171 successfully resolved—marking a 17% rise in complaints received and a 16% increase in resolved cases compared to 2023.
“Our investigating officers traveled across the country, holding open courts to ensure that administrative justice reached the public,” Qureshi said, referring to the initiative as a “court for the common man.”
With the opening of new regional offices in Muzaffarabad and Gilgit, the Ombudsman’s office now has a presence in 24 cities nationwide. Qureshi also hinted at plans to open additional offices later this year.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior AJK officials, heads of federal agencies, civil society members, and media representatives. In a press conference at the Press and Information Department (PID), Qureshi commended the media for its role in raising awareness about the office and urged continued support for spreading the word to benefit the public.
