Sabrina Carpenter Faces Censorship Twice at the 2025 Grammy Awards
Sabrina Carpenter made an unforgettable debut at the 2025 Grammy Awards, but her performance and acceptance speech were censored during the live broadcast.
The “Espresso” singer, who was nominated for six Grammys, performed a medley of her hits, “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.” During the performance, Carpenter chose to keep the original explicit lyrics of “Please Please Please,” which included the line, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, motherf—ker.” The explicit word was censored from the live feed.
Carpenter was censored once more later in the evening after winning the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for her album Short & Sweet. While thanking the Recording Academy and her team, Carpenter ended her speech with a comment that was also muted during the broadcast. Earlier, she had jokingly apologized for using the word “hell” multiple times, saying, “I don’t know if I’m allowed to say hell, but I said it three times now, so thank you.”
In addition to her win, Carpenter received six nominations, including Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year for “Espresso,” Song of the Year for “Please Please Please,” Album of the Year, and Best New Artist.
The 2025 Grammys, hosted by Trevor Noah at the Crypto.com Arena, showcased high-energy performances and several viral moments, with Carpenter’s memorable debut adding to the night’s buzz despite the censorship.
