WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus narrowly avoided an Israeli airstrike at Yemen’s Sanaa airport on Thursday. Tedros was at the airport to assess the health and humanitarian situation in Yemen and negotiate the release of UN officials held hostage by the Houthis. He was about to board a flight with UN and WHO staff when the airport was bombed, with the air traffic control tower, departure lounge, and runway damaged. Two people were killed, and a crew member was injured. Tedros and his team were unharmed and expressed condolences for the victims. Israel’s military confirmed targeting Houthi-linked sites, including the airport and ports along Yemen’s coast.
