Wes Burns could face a long recovery after suffering a suspected ACL injury during Ipswich Townβs match against Liverpool.
The 30-year-old winger was carried off on a stretcher in the 25th minute following a tackle with Cody Gakpo. Burns received treatment on the pitch for several minutes while medical staff evaluated his knee, before being substituted by Ben Johnson.
Sports injury analysis outlet, Physio Scout, raised concerns about a potential ACL tear after observing the inward collapse of Burns’ knee during a pivoting motion. The analysis suggests that recovery could take more than nine months, although there is a slight chance the injury could involve a less severe MCL strain, meniscus problem, or bone bruise.
Burns has been an important figure for Ipswich Town this season, having made 18 Premier League appearances under manager Kieran McKenna. Since joining from Fleetwood in 2021, he has played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League. Prior to the injury, Liverpool were leading 1-0 with a goal from Dominik Szoboszlai.
