Waterloo Station Evacuated Amid Emergency Fire Alert in UK’s Busiest Rail Hub

Waterloo Station, the UK’s busiest railway hub, was evacuated early Wednesday morning after a fire alarm triggered an emergency response, disrupting commuter travel.

Videos and images circulating on social media showed metal gates blocking Underground access, with signs warning, “Emergency: Do not enter.”

A public announcement urged passengers to evacuate immediately, and Underground services at the station were temporarily suspended. Many commuters were forced to reroute via alternative stations, including Charing Cross and Waterloo East.

One affected passenger described the situation as chaotic, stating they had to rely on SouthEastern services due to the disruption.

Transport for London later confirmed that the station reopened by 7 a.m., though it did not confirm whether an actual fire had occurred.

Located in central London, Waterloo Station is the UK’s largest railway terminal by floor area and has the highest number of platforms in the country.
