Salman Ali Agha pulled off a spectacular catch to dismiss Matthew Breetzke during the crucial ODI Tri-Series match between Pakistan and South Africa at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 12. His incredible athleticism made this moment one of the standout highlights of the game.
Breetzke, who had been in excellent form, was posing a serious threat when Agha’s brilliance ended his innings.
The moment unfolded on the first ball of the 39th over when Khushdil Shah delivered a flighted ball outside off. Breetzke attempted a cover drive, but Agha, diving to his right, extended one hand to complete a breathtaking mid-air catch.
Agha had already impressed earlier in the match with another outstanding effort in the 8th over. On that occasion, Shaheen Shah Afridi induced an outside edge from Tony de Zorzi, sending the ball flying towards second slip. Agha reacted swiftly, diving to his right to grab a sharp catch, breaking a 51-run opening partnership.
Batting first, South Africa put up a commanding total of 352/5 in their 50 overs. Temba Bavuma anchored the innings with a composed 82 off 96 balls, while Breetzke contributed a solid 83 off 84.
However, Heinrich Klaasen’s explosive 87 off just 56 balls, featuring 11 fours and three sixes, proved to be a game-changer. Kyle Verreynne (44 off 32) also chipped in with a valuable knock, helping South Africa post a daunting total.
Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to contain the South African attack. Shaheen Afridi (2/66), Khushdil Shah (1/39), and Naseem Shah (1/68) were the only wicket-takers, while Abrar Ahmed (0/63) and Mohammad Hasnain (0/72) endured difficult spells.
With a target of 353, Pakistan now faces a challenging task to secure a spot in the Tri-Series final against New Zealand.
