US Launches Diplomatic Effort to Prevent India-Pakistan Escalation
As tensions between India and Pakistan rise following the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the United States has initiated a diplomatic push to avert further escalation.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to engage in talks with the foreign ministers of both countries to stress the importance of restraint and maintaining open communication, according to a statement from the State Department on Tuesday.
βWe are reaching out to both nations and urging them to avoid escalating the situation,β said State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce during a press briefing. She highlighted that Secretary Rubio is focusing on diplomacy and has called on other international leaders to join in supporting peace efforts.
This diplomatic initiative follows the tragic Pahalgam attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, including Indian naval personnel and civilians. India has accused Pakistan of involvement, a claim that Islamabad has firmly rejected. Pakistan has suggested a neutral, transparent international investigation to uncover the facts.
While Bruce refrained from addressing the specific allegations made by India, she reiterated the US’s ongoing engagement with both countries, emphasizing that Washington is closely monitoring the developments.
When asked about Pakistan’s role in the recent capture of a Daesh suspect, Bruce acknowledged and praised Islamabadβs cooperation. However, she declined to discuss broader political matters within Pakistan, stating that the primary US focus remains on de-escalation and facilitating diplomatic dialogue between India and Pakistan.
