Senator Faisal Vawda has openly criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, alleging that he had repeatedly cautioned him about the repercussions of his decisions, including legal challenges and possible imprisonment.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club, Vawda recounted warning Khan about the approval of the £190 million deal. “I advised Imran Khan that a case would be filed, leading to his imprisonment. I had foreseen this outcome and predicted penalties,” he stated.
Vawda also took aim at delays in legal proceedings, accusing PTI leadership of spreading misinformation. “Every crime carries a punishment. No one will accept excuses that others benefited from this. The consequences must be faced,” he remarked.
He highlighted internal discord within PTI, alleging that members of Khan’s own party were conspiring against him. “For over two years, I have been warning that Khan’s close associates are working against him while he is in jail. Now, these issues are being discussed openly on social media,” Vawda added.
Vawda cautioned that further missteps could have long-lasting political consequences for the country.
Addressing Imran Khan’s leadership, he warned against overconfidence stemming from public support. “Popularity does not make anyone invincible. Imran Khan’s life is in danger, and ironically, the threat comes from people within his own circle,” he said.
He expressed concerns about the political climate, referencing the May 9 protests and their impact on state institutions. “The events of that day aimed to destabilize the state. I had previously warned that those in power only want to keep Khan behind bars,” Vawda claimed.
Discussing Pakistan’s political landscape, Vawda emphasized the need for transparent negotiations and genuine leadership. “Backdoor diplomacy has no place here. Pakistan requires honest leadership and open dialogue to serve the interests of its citizens,” he asserted.
Turning to national security, Vawda highlighted the sacrifices of Pakistan’s military and law enforcement agencies. “Our armed forces have made significant sacrifices. Pakistan is now positioned to play a critical role in the region, with global acknowledgment of our efforts,” he stated.
He also noted the shifting global perspective, claiming that international attention has shifted towards Pakistan’s progress rather than focusing on Imran Khan. “The world now recognizes Pakistan’s potential. External pressures have diminished, and there’s much more positive change on the horizon,” Vawda said.
Responding to allegations of backdoor dealings between the government and PTI, he dismissed such claims, emphasizing the transparency of the political process. “If secret negotiations were happening, why are they still reliant on external aid?” he questioned.
Concluding his remarks, Vawda reaffirmed his personal commitment to Imran Khan’s well-being. “If Khan ever needs assistance, even something as small as a glass of water, I will be there to help him, regardless of the circumstances,” he concluded.
