PALM BEACH:
On Saturday, the United States military carried out air strikes targeting Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Somalia, as confirmed by President Donald Trump.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump explained, “This morning I ordered precision military air strikes on the Senior ISIS attack planner and other terrorists he recruited and led in Somalia.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the air strikes focused on ISIS-Somalia members in the Golis mountains, located in the semi-autonomous Puntland region.
“Our initial assessment indicates that multiple operatives were killed in the strikes, and no civilians were harmed,” Hegseth added.
He also emphasized that the operation weakened ISISβs capacity to plan and carry out attacks that could endanger US citizens.
