Washington:The United States has imposed sanctions on International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan following an executive order signed by former President Donald Trump, the Treasury Department confirmed on Thursday.
Khan has been added to the Office of Foreign Assets Control’s Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List, restricting his financial transactions and assets under U.S. jurisdiction.
This move comes in response to ICC arrest warrants issued against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
The executive order asserts that the ICC lacks jurisdiction over both the U.S. and Israel, as neither country is a signatory to the Rome Statute. It further states that both nations maintain democratic institutions and military forces that uphold international laws of war.
