Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, announced that the days of unskilled Pakistani workers securing jobs in the UAE are coming to an end, as the country is shifting towards a demand for skilled professionals.
Tirmizi emphasized that Pakistan must focus on training workers in high-demand fields like accounting, IT, banking, artificial intelligence, healthcare, and aviation to meet the UAE’s evolving needs. He explained that this transition from low-wage, unskilled jobs to high-paying skilled roles could significantly boost the earning potential for Pakistanis, with salaries in these fields ranging from Dh20,000 and higher, compared to the current low-income jobs that pay Dh1,000 or more.
The ambassador also spoke about the strengthening relationship between Pakistan and the UAE, stressing that it goes beyond just sending workers abroad. The partnership now includes enhancing Pakistan’s economic position globally, with a focus on investment and job creation. Skills development in areas like IT, accounting, healthcare, and aviation is a central part of this collaboration.
Tirmizi highlighted the increasing global demand for physiotherapists and nurses, both in the UAE and worldwide. He also revealed that plans are in motion to set up pilot training schools in Pakistan to provide affordable aviation training.
Regarding remittances, Tirmizi shared that they had risen by 53% over six months, reaching $4.5 billion, with expectations that they will exceed $9 billion by the end of the fiscal year. He praised the contributions of Pakistani expatriates in various sectors, acknowledging their vital role in this achievement.
Looking ahead, Tirmizi stressed the need for Pakistan to establish itself as a tourist destination, promote higher education, and strengthen its position in the global economy.
