Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that the world is beginning to recognize America’s firm stance on correcting trade imbalances. He claimed that since announcing new tariffs earlier this month, he has received appeals from world leaders and corporate executives seeking exemptions.
Posting on his Truth Social account, Trump referenced his April 2 proclamation of “Liberation Day,” which introduced retaliatory tariffs aimed at nations he accuses of engaging in unfair trade practices. He said the move has triggered responses from international officials and business leaders.
“They need to fix the damage caused by years of exploitation, but it won’t be simple,” Trump wrote. “We must restore the economic strength of our Great Nation and ensure fair, balanced trade.”
In recent weeks, Trump has unveiled a number of tariff measures, with his changing rhetoric sparking fears of increased volatility in the global economy.
