Trump urges Egypt and Jordan to accept Palestinians from Gaza

Former President Donald Trump has proposed that Egypt and Jordan take in Palestinians from Gaza, describing the region as “a demolition site” due to ongoing destruction. In a recent phone call, he urged Jordan’s King Abdullah to accept more Palestinians and indicated he would make a similar request to Egypt’s president. Trump suggested that the move could be either temporary or long-term, but the idea has been met with resistance from Hamas, which has stated it would oppose any displacement of Palestinians from Gaza.

Trump’s remarks come amid widespread destruction in Gaza, where much of the infrastructure has been damaged during the 15-month conflict with Israel. The United Nations has reported that around 60% of Gaza’s structures are either damaged or destroyed. Trump’s comments are also controversial, as they challenge long-standing US foreign policy supporting the creation of a Palestinian state, with Gaza as part of it.

The displaced residents of Gaza have shown resistance to leaving their land, and many in the region view the suggestion of relocating as an attack on their right to remain in their ancestral home. This has added to the complex geopolitical discussions surrounding Gaza’s future.
