Trump Poised to Take Oath as 47th U.S. President

Trump Set to Be Sworn in as 47th U.S. President

WASHINGTON:Donald Trump is scheduled to take the oath of office as the 47th president of the United States on Monday. Outgoing President Joe Biden, along with other former U.S. presidents, will attend the inauguration ceremony.

The inauguration, a longstanding tradition, takes place every four years and includes a formal swearing-in ceremony. According to the U.S. Constitution, the new president’s term officially begins at noon on January 20 (or the next day if it falls on a Sunday), and the president must take the oath of office, typically administered by the chief justice of the Supreme Court. On Monday, John Roberts will officiate for the second time for Trump.

The president will deliver an inaugural address outlining the plans for the next four years. Trump’s first inaugural speech in 2017 was notably somber, with his reference to “American carnage.” Incoming Vice President JD Vance will also be sworn in.

Although Trump had refused to attend Biden’s 2020 swearing-in, he will be joined by Biden at the ceremony, along with former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, though Michelle Obama will not attend.

Trump has indicated plans to sign numerous executive orders immediately upon taking office, aiming to reverse several of Biden’s policies. He has promised a mass deportation initiative, expanded oil drilling, and potentially issuing pardons for individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection.

Following the inauguration, U.S. officials will meet with foreign ministers from Japan, India, and Australia, part of the “Quad” alliance, seen as a response to China’s growing influence.

Trump arrived in Washington on Saturday with his wife Melania and family, and attended a private event at his Virginia golf club, which included a fireworks display, ahead of the inauguration.
