Trump Voices Disappointment Over Russia’s Continued Strikes on Ukraine Amid Peace Talks

US President Donald Trump expressed his strong disapproval on Sunday regarding Russia’s ongoing missile strikes against Ukraine, particularly during peace negotiations.

Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One at Morristown Municipal Airport in New Jersey, Trump said, “I was very disappointed that missiles were flying by Russia… very disappointed.” He also noted his surprise that the attacks were continuing amid the ongoing talks.

When asked about his expectations from Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump stated, “I want him to stop shooting, sit down, and sign a deal. I believe we have the framework for a deal, and I want him to sign it and move on with life.”

Regarding his trust in President Putin, Trump responded, “I’ll let you know in about two weeks,” without providing further details.

Trump also reflected on his recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Vatican, which took place during Pope Francis’s funeral. It was their first in-person meeting since a tense encounter at the White House in February.

“I think the meeting went well. We’ll see what happens in the coming days,” Trump remarked, adding that his relationship with Zelenskyy had “never been bad.”

Trump described Zelenskyy as “calmer” during their Vatican talks and suggested that the Ukrainian leader may now be more open to striking a deal. “I think he understands the situation now, and I think he wants to make a deal,” Trump said. “I’m not sure if that was the case before.”

On another diplomatic front, Trump expressed optimism about negotiations with Iran. “I think we’re doing very well on the Iran situation. A deal is likely, and I believe we’ll achieve it without resorting to military action,” he said.

Trump reiterated his stance on Iran’s nuclear program, warning that the country must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
