Trump Reportedly Annoyed by Musk’s Frequent Presence at Mar-a-Lago
Former President Donald Trump is reportedly growing frustrated with Elon Musk’s regular visits to his Mar-a-Lago estate, even though he publicly praises Musk as an important donor and supporter.
New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman revealed that Trump has privately expressed irritation over Musk “being around a lot,” with the billionaire often staying at the Banyan Cottage, which is close to Trump’s residence and transition headquarters.
Musk, who has contributed more than $250 million to Trump’s re-election campaign, has participated in meetings and even dined with rival tech moguls such as Jeff Bezos. While Musk’s close proximity has helped him gain influence within Trump’s circle, especially amidst tension with grassroots MAGA supporters, Haberman told Kara Swisher on her podcast that the relationship is becoming strained.
Musk’s growing role in policy discussions has earned him the nickname “President Musk” among some Democrats, a label that reportedly frustrates Trump. Haberman pointed out that the nickname was always intended to provoke, and that Trump’s irritation could increase once he returns to the White House.
Despite Musk’s financial backing, which gives him considerable influence, key members of Trump’s team, including chief of staff Susie Wiles and deputy Stephen Miller, hold more sway within his inner circle. Haberman noted that Musk’s bold approach is causing tension within Trump’s camp, describing the situation as “shifting sands.”
Although tensions may rise, Musk is expected to retain a close relationship with Trump, though Haberman speculates that his access could diminish if Trump assumes office again.
