Tim Miller Reveals He Didn’t Make Much Money Directing ‘Deadpool’

Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool, revealed how much he earned from the 2016 film, which was his first feature film. Despite the movie’s massive success, grossing over $782 million worldwide, Miller didn’t make as much money as one might expect.

In an interview with Collider, he explained that being a first-time director in Hollywood doesn’t come with huge financial rewards. He shared that he was paid $225,000 to direct Deadpool, which he felt wasn’t a lot of money for two years of work. While he was grateful for the opportunity, Miller noted that his agent pointed out that he could have earned more from an episode of The Walking Dead.

Miller expressed both gratitude for being part of the successful Deadpool franchise and disappointment over not receiving a share of the film’s merchandise earnings. After the success of the first Deadpool movie, a sequel was released in 2018, and the franchise was later integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Disney acquired Fox in 2017. The third installment, Deadpool & Wolverine, was released in 2024, directed by Shawn Levy.
