Three Pakistani Players Featured in ICC ODI Team of the Year

The International Cricket Council (ICC) unveiled the 2024 Men’s ODI Team of the Year, which celebrates exceptional performances in the 50-over format. Pakistan made a strong impression, with three players earning spots on the prestigious lineup.

Saim Ayub, a promising opener from Pakistan, impressed with 515 runs from 9 innings, establishing himself as a key contributor with both bat and ball, taking 5 wickets at an average of 27.80. His standout performances were critical in Pakistan’s victories, including a remarkable whitewash of South Africa.

Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, both fast bowlers from Pakistan, joined Ayub in the squad. Afridi took 15 wickets in 6 matches at an average of 17.60, showcasing his lethal yorkers and swing. Rauf added 13 wickets in 8 matches, known for his pace and precision in death overs.

Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka, who scored 605 runs and took 10 wickets, captains the team. Other key players include Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz (531 runs) and Azmatullah Omarzai (all-rounder), and Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis (742 runs). Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka) stood out with 26 wickets, while Afghanistan’s AM Ghazanfar added 21 wickets to the mix.

In addition, the ICC also named the Men’s Test Team of the Year 2024, featuring players like Pat Cummins (Australia), Yashasvi Jaiswal (India), and Ravindra Jadeja (India).
