Three Detained for Poaching Markhor in Takato Range

Three individuals, including two government workers, were arrested on Thursday for illegally hunting the rare Suleiman Markhor in the Takato Range near Quetta. Authorities seized the remains of the animal and the weapons used in the act.

The hunting took place in Takato, a protected area between Quetta and Pishin, under Bostan’s jurisdiction in Pishin district. Assistant Commissioner Amir Hamza Baloch of Karizat led a successful operation, supported by the Levies Force, after receiving intelligence about ongoing illegal hunting activities.

During the operation, the suspects were apprehended as they attempted to transport the Markhor’s carcass in a jeep. The arrested individuals included police officer Izhar Ahmad, WASA employee Musawir Jan, and Saddam Khan, all residents of Bostan.

The suspects have been charged under various sections of the Balochistan Wildlife Act, 2014, including sections 9 and 16B.
