Talks are the ‘Only Way Forward’ for Government and Opposition: Barrister Gohar

ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan stated that talks are the only solution for both the government and opposition. He said that the government is setting up a negotiation committee after National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s involvement. Gohar emphasized that a committee should be formed to resolve political issues.

Earlier, PTI founder Imran Khan warned of starting a civil disobedience movement from December 14 if his demands for the release of political prisoners and the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26, 2023, were not met. Gohar said that the NA speaker had requested the government form a committee, and he hoped it would happen soon.

Imran’s sister, Aleema Khan, said the government was not interested in talks and confirmed the civil disobedience movement would begin as planned. She stated that filing more cases against PTI workers made the government’s intentions clear – they did not want to negotiate.

Aleema reiterated her brother’s demands and expressed frustration over the lack of government response. She announced that PTI would launch a movement to stop sending remittances to Pakistan unless their demands were met.

PTI lawyer Shoaib Shaheen added that the government had not made any progress in investigating the deaths of PTI supporters during the November 26 rally in Islamabad. He confirmed the party’s ultimatum: if the government did not form a committee and begin serious negotiations, they would call for a halt to remittances.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister’s adviser, Rana Sanaullah, confirmed that a committee for talks with PTI would be formed soon. He said the prime minister had invited the opposition for discussions, and the Speaker had been in contact with the government to create a committee.
