Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho has refuted claims of a COVID-19 outbreak in Karachi, labeling them as inaccurate, according to local media reports.
In a statement released on Monday, the minister clarified that over 100 COVID-19 tests were conducted in Karachi, with only seven individuals testing positive. “There is no truth to the claims of a COVID-19 outbreak in the city,” she stated.
Dr. Pechuho elaborated that the tests were precautionary and targeted individuals experiencing seasonal flu and influenza symptoms. “The positive cases displayed mild, flu-like symptoms and were advised to recover at home,” she added.
She further emphasized that COVID-19 is now regarded as a seasonal flu on a global scale and urged the public to remain calm. “COVID-19 no longer poses a significant threat and should be treated as a common flu,” she assured.
Her statement came in response to reports suggesting that 30% of patients presenting flu and cough symptoms in Karachi were testing positive for COVID-19, which had led hospitals to issue special guidelines.
