Senate Panel Expresses Displeasure Over Bureaucrat’s No-Show

Senate Committee Upset Over Absence of Industry Secretary

ISLAMABAD:
The Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production voiced strong disapproval over the absence of the Secretary of Industries and Production, warning that action may be taken against him.

During a committee meeting led by Senator Aun Abbas Bappi, members expressed frustration over the absence of both the minister and the secretary.

Senator Danesh Kumar pointed out that this was the second time the secretary had missed the panel’s meeting, stating, “If he doesn’t attend, I will walk out of the meeting.”

The committee chairman criticized the secretary’s lack of attendance, announcing intentions to write to the Senate Chairman and request action against the official. He expressed dissatisfaction with the behavior of the grade-22 officer, noting the lack of respect for the committee’s proceedings. “We have the right to file a privilege motion against the secretary,” he stated.

An official from the Ministry of Industries and Production explained that the secretary was attending a crucial meeting, which prevented his presence at the committee session.

In response, the committee chairman questioned the secretary’s priorities, saying, “What could be more important than this meeting? Committee members traveled from Karachi and Balochistan to attend, yet the secretary, despite being in Islamabad, failed to appear.”
