Saudi Arabia introduces strict vaccination requirements for Umrah pilgrims.

Saudi Arabia has implemented new health regulations for Umrah pilgrims in 2025, requiring vaccination against several diseases to protect the health of worshippers.

According to the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority, all pilgrims must be vaccinated against meningococcal meningitis, polio, yellow fever, COVID-19, and seasonal influenza. The meningitis vaccine is mandatory for all international visitors, while polio vaccinations are required for travelers from polio-endemic countries like Pakistan, Nigeria, and Afghanistan.

Pilgrims from Angola, Nigeria, Brazil, and Congo are also required to get the yellow fever vaccine. The COVID-19 and flu vaccines are mandatory based on the World Health Organization’s recommendations. Additional vaccinations for tetanus, measles, and other diseases are also advised.

The Civil Aviation Authority has instructed pilgrims to carry health-related documents, including their vaccination certificates. Those with chronic health conditions should bring documentation of their condition and ensure they have enough medication, stored in its original packaging.

The notification also emphasizes preventing the Zika virus and dengue by using insect repellents containing DEET, IR3535, or Icaridin and wearing protective clothing. Pilgrims are advised to use physical barriers, such as window screens and closed doors, to safeguard themselves.
