Sabrina Carpenter Joins Taylor Swift on Exclusive Pop Airplay Milestone
Sabrina Carpenter has reached a significant milestone in her music career, joining her close friend Taylor Swift on an exclusive list of artists with multiple Pop Airplay No. 1 hits. According to *Billboard*, Carpenter’s album *Short n’ Sweet* has produced four Pop Airplay No. 1 singles, making her the first artist to achieve this feat since Swift’s *1989* album in 2014-2015.
The four chart-topping singles from *Short n’ Sweet* are *Espresso*, *Please Please Please*, *Taste*, and *Bed Chem*. Released in August 2024, the album has been a major success for Carpenter, solidifying her place in the music industry.
Taylor Swift previously set a high bar with five Pop Airplay No. 1 singles from her *1989* album, including hits like *Shake It Off*, *Blank Space*, *Style*, *Bad Blood* (featuring Kendrick Lamar), and *Wildest Dreams*. The Pop Airplay chart, which tracks weekly plays on mainstream top 40 radio stations, is a key indicator of an artist’s mainstream success.
Carpenter’s achievement is unlikely to cause any friction with Swift, as the two artists share a close friendship. Carpenter has often spoken about Swift’s support and mentorship. In an August 2024 interview with *Variety*, Carpenter described Swift as one of her “best, best friends,” adding, “We grab dinner or text and catch up like you would with your best friend.”
Carpenter, who opened for Swift on the *Eras Tour* in Latin America, Australia, and Singapore, values Swift’s insights into the music industry. “It’s so cool for me to get a perspective on this whole process from her and the community of artists that I feel I’m close to — to get advice from them on stuff that you can’t just ask the internet,” she explained.
The singer also appreciates the creative exchange she shares with Swift and other artists. “We’re always playing each other our [music], and whenever I start to think, ‘Maybe I’ll get on Twitter and say something about this,’ I’m always like, ‘Maybe I’ll write a song instead,’” Carpenter added.
The *Billboard* Pop Airplay chart has celebrated numerous artists for their achievements, including Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Justin Timberlake. Perry holds the current record with six No. 1 singles from her album *Teenage Dream*. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga and Timberlake are tied with Carpenter, each having four No. 1 singles from their respective albums *The Fame* and *FutureSex/LoveSounds*.
Carpenter’s accomplishment highlights her growing influence in the music world and underscores the power of collaboration and mentorship in the industry.
