Ryan Reynolds’ appearance at the 50th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live has sparked controversy, with political commentator Candace Owens accusing him of attending the event to “stalk” his ex-wife, Scarlett Johansson.
On February 16, 2025, Owens shared several Instagram Stories, criticizing Reynolds and claiming the Deadpool star had shown up with the intention of overshadowing Johansson, who was at the event with her husband, SNL cast member Colin Jost. “I can’t shake the feeling that he only came to stalk Scarlett Johansson, the ‘one that got away’ from his narcissistic abuse,” Owens wrote.
Owens also speculated that Reynolds’ attendance was in response to a recent joke by Jost about Reynolds and Blake Lively’s ongoing legal issues with Justin Baldoni on Celebrity Jeopardy!. Owens further suggested that Reynolds has a history of staying close to Johansson’s professional network, citing his friendship with Hugh Jackman and his involvement of Channing Tatum in past projects.
The controversy is amplified by the drama surrounding It Ends With Us, the film starring Lively, where Owens accuses Reynolds of interfering in production after allegedly viewing raw footage that upset him. Owens even suggested that Reynolds should be deported to Canada for his “moral crimes” related to Baldoni.
The tension escalated when social media users expressed their frustration, with some criticizing Reynolds and Lively for drawing attention away from Johansson and Jost at the event. One user called it “wildly unhinged” for the couple to dominate the spotlight on a night meant for Johansson and her husband.
As of now, Reynolds has not responded publicly to Owens’ allegations, but the claims have sparked intense debate online, with fans divided over the accusations.
