The Russian Embassy in Italy has strongly criticized reported plans by France and the UK to deploy “peacekeeping forces” in Ukraine, alleging that Western military personnel have been actively involved in the conflict since 2015.
In a statement issued on Friday, the embassy claimed that Western soldiers, operating under the guise of instructors and advisers, have been training Ukrainian forces, maintaining foreign-supplied military equipment, and participating in the planning and execution of military operations against Russia.
The embassy accused France and the UK of attempting to escalate the conflict and undermine potential peace negotiations. “The deployment of ‘peacekeeping forces’ by those who are heavily arming Ukraine and supporting terrorist activities against Russia is entirely immoral,” the statement read.
Russia reiterated its staunch opposition to any foreign military presence in Ukraine, regardless of the format, including missions under the United Nations (UN), European Union (EU), or Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). The embassy described such moves as “completely unacceptable.”
The statement comes amid escalating tensions over Western military support for Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly warned against direct NATO involvement in the conflict, emphasizing that such actions could further destabilize the region.
The Russian Embassy’s remarks highlight the deepening divide between Russia and Western nations over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with Moscow continuing to frame foreign intervention as a threat to regional and global security.
