Renée Zellweger recently shared her thoughts on the age-gap relationship depicted in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, where her character, Bridget, is in a relationship with a younger man. The film, based on Helen Fielding’s 2013 book, follows Bridget’s life as a widow and single mother, supported by her family, friends, and former lover, Daniel.
At the movie’s London premiere, Renée addressed the 22-year age difference between her 51-year-old character and Leo Woodall’s 29-year-old Roxster. She told Variety, “I think it’s nothing new,” before adding, “Maybe the social taboos are melting away.” She emphasized that love should not be criticized based on age, saying, “There are certain things we probably don’t need to have opinions about… why would that ever be a problem?”
Renée also spoke highly of working with her new co-stars, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall, noting that they made her feel “spoiled for riches” and describing the experience as a dream with “talented, wonderful fellas.”
