Red Alert in Jeddah and Madinah as Severe Rainstorms Trigger Flash Floods in Saudi Arabia

Madinah and Jeddah Face Severe Flooding Amid Heavy Rainstorms in Saudi Arabia

Madinah, Saudi Arabia, is grappling with severe flooding and disruption caused by intense rainstorms and flash floods, as reported by Gulf media. Streets have turned into rivers, creating chaos across the region.

The storms, which began earlier this week, are forecasted to continue through Wednesday, January 8, bringing heavy rainfall, hail, and strong, dust-laden winds that severely impair visibility.

Social media footage has highlighted the intensity of the weather, showcasing heavy rains, gusty winds, and significant disruptions in daily life.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) has issued red alerts for multiple regions, including Jeddah, where torrential rains and flash floods are anticipated. Accompanying the downpour are strong winds and high waves, further complicating road conditions and posing safety risks.

Authorities have urged residents to take precautions, avoid waterlogged areas, and exercise extreme caution. Motorists and those in flood-prone regions have been specifically advised to stay vigilant.

In addition to Madinah and Jeddah, several other areas—such as Riyadh, Makkah, Al-Baha, and Tabuk—are expected to face similar conditions. Forecasts predict heavy rain, thunderstorms, and dust storms in Northern Borders, Al-Jouf, Hail, Qassim, and the Eastern Region.

The Crisis and Disaster Management Center in Makkah has warned of potential disruptions, including traffic delays and increased flooding. Beachgoers and drivers are particularly advised to avoid risky zones.

Affected areas include Makkah City, Jeddah, Bahra, and nearby regions, where torrential rains, hail, and dust storms continue. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected in Taif, Maysan, and Al-Qunfudah.

This adverse weather is part of a larger storm system impacting the region, causing widespread disruption. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and providing regular updates to ensure public safety.
