Putin and Xi Pledge to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

In a video call on Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted the growing strength of their bilateral ties, which come shortly after the inauguration of Donald Trump as the U.S. president.

Putin, referring to Xi as his “dear friend,” emphasized that Russia and China were developing their relationship “based on friendship, mutual trust, and support,” despite facing external challenges. He noted that the collaboration between the two nations “plays a key stabilizing role in international affairs.”

Xi, in turn, expressed his desire to elevate the relationship with Russia to “new heights” in the coming year. According to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, Xi stressed the importance of continued strategic coordination, mutual support, and safeguarding each country’s legitimate interests. He also emphasized the need for both nations to expand their cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties through deeper practical collaboration.
