Donald Trump’s Turnberry golf resort in Scotland was recently targeted by pro-Palestinian activists protesting his controversial proposal for Gaza’s reconstruction. The activists, affiliated with the group Palestine Action, vandalized the luxury property by spray-painting “Gaza is not 4 sale” in nine-foot-tall letters on the course’s lawn. They also splashed red paint on buildings and damaged sections of the greens. The group accused Trump of supporting a plan that would “ethnically cleanse, destroy, and seize control” of Gaza.
The incident follows Trump’s suggestion to turn Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East,” a proposal that includes relocating approximately 2 million Palestinians. His comments have drawn widespread criticism, with Arab leaders firmly opposing any plans for displacement.
Trump Turnberry, a high-end golf course acquired by Trump in 2014, is renowned for its exclusivity, with fees reaching up to $1,200 per round. The resort has not yet issued a statement regarding the vandalism.
The protest reflects growing tensions in Western countries over the Gaza conflict. In a separate incident over the weekend, a man carrying a Palestinian flag scaled Elizabeth Tower in London, prompting an emergency response. Additionally, police in London blocked a planned pro-Palestine demonstration near a synagogue in the city center.
On the international stage, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK have expressed support for a $53 billion Arab-backed reconstruction plan aimed at rebuilding Gaza while keeping its Palestinian population in place. However, both Israel and Trump have opposed the plan, arguing that it fails to address the disarmament of Hamas.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected any involvement of Hamas or the Palestinian Authority in Gaza’s future governance. An upcoming international conference is expected to discuss funding for Gaza’s reconstruction next month.
