President and Prime Minister Extend Condolences on Passing of Pope Francis

ISLAMABAD: On Monday, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences over the death of Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

The announcement of Pope Francis’ passing, made by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, came just a day after the Pope made his first extended public appearance following a 38-day hospitalization for pneumonia, which ended on March 23. The Pope, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was elected on March 13, 2013, and served until his death at the age of 88.

In their messages, both leaders paid tribute to the Pope’s profound impact on global peace, interfaith dialogue, and the dignity of humanity.

President Zardari expressed deep sadness over the Pope’s death, emphasizing his efforts to promote compassion, interfaith understanding, and peaceful coexistence. He also acknowledged Pope Francis’ significant contributions to social justice and his voice for vulnerable communities, noting that he would be remembered for fostering unity among different faiths.

Similarly, PM Shehbaz offered his heartfelt condolences, recognizing Pope Francis as a global leader who guided billions toward peace, mutual respect, and love. He highlighted the Pope’s teachings of tolerance, especially his recent calls for ceasefire in the Middle East, which showcased his commitment to global peace.

The Prime Minister described Pope Francis’ death as an immense loss to the world and the Christian community, sending condolences to the Vatican, Christians globally, and all of his followers. He extended these condolences on behalf of Pakistan’s government and its people.
