The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast moderate rain, windstorms, and snowfall in the hilly regions of northwest Balochistan and northern Pakistan from January 18 to 21, as a westerly wave is set to affect the country.
Areas such as Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, and several others in Balochistan will experience rain and windstorms from January 18 to 20. Meanwhile, regions including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir will face similar conditions from January 18 to 21. Light rain is also expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, and surrounding areas on the evening of January 18 and during the day on January 19.
The PMD has issued a warning of potential flash floods in several Balochistan districts on the night of January 18 and the morning of January 19. Snowfall is predicted to disrupt roads in areas like Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, and parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, which may also face avalanches and landslides.
Authorities have advised caution for tourists and travelers and recommended farmers adjust their activities due to the forecast. Local authorities are urged to stay alert and take precautions to ensure safety during this period.
