Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the global community to heed the cries and suffering of the people of Gaza.
During a special session at the D-8 Summit focused on Palestine and Lebanon, the Prime Minister thanked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for organizing the important discussion on Gaza and Lebanon.
PM Sharif condemned Israel’s ongoing actions, which have devastated Gaza and are now spreading to the West Bank, warning of the risk of escalating the conflict into a broader regional crisis.
He described the violence in Gaza since October 2023 as one of the darkest chapters in modern history, calling it a catastrophic humanitarian disaster of unimaginable scale. Pakistan has repeatedly condemned Israelβs aggression in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria.
The Prime Minister also denounced Israel’s attacks on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), emphasizing its critical role in providing aid to millions of vulnerable Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
PM Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, grounded in international law and the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
He stressed the need for the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.
The Prime Minister called for urgent international efforts to secure a ceasefire and facilitate the reconstruction of Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and other regions devastated by Israeli airstrikes. Pakistan has already provided aid to Palestine through Egypt and Jordan, and PM Sharif urged continued humanitarian assistance to support the survival of millions of civilians caught in the conflict. βThe world must listen to the innocent people of Gaza,β he concluded.
