PM Shehbaz: Pakistan’s IT Workforce Can Compete Globally

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence in Pakistan’s IT workforce, stating that it has the potential to compete on the global stage. He emphasized that the government is providing necessary support to IT companies to help them achieve an export target of $25 billion. These remarks were made during a meeting with a delegation from the US-based multinational IT firm Afiniti, led by its CEO, Jerome Kapelus, according to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz welcomed Afiniti’s interest in expanding its investments in Pakistan’s IT sector. He proposed the establishment of a state-of-the-art call center in Pakistan by Afiniti to cater to both domestic and international clients. The Prime Minister also highlighted his personal involvement in initiatives aimed at equipping the country’s youth with advanced skills in information technology, artificial intelligence, and other cutting-edge technical fields.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, along with senior officials from relevant government institutions. The visiting delegation praised the expertise and commitment of Pakistani IT professionals, acknowledging their significant role in the sector’s growth.

Jerome Kapelus, CEO of Afiniti, noted that Pakistan’s IT industry presents a highly favorable environment for investment and business expansion. He revealed that over 1,000 highly skilled Pakistani professionals are currently employed at Afiniti Pakistan. Kapelus further emphasized the immense potential of Pakistani youth to drive the IT sector’s development, attributing Afiniti’s success in the region to the country’s talented and well-trained workforce.
