PM Shehbaz Leads Pakistan Delegation at D-8 Summit in Cairo

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Cairo on Wednesday for an official visit to lead Pakistan’s delegation at the 11th Summit of the Developing Eight (D-8) nations.

Upon his arrival, the prime minister was welcomed by Mohamed Shimi, Egypt’s Minister for Public Business Sector, along with senior Egyptian officials and representatives from Pakistan’s embassy in Cairo, according to the PM Office.

The theme of this year’s D-8 Summit, held from December 18 to 19, is “Investing in Youth and Supporting SMEs: Shaping Tomorrow’s Economy.” During the event, PM Shehbaz will emphasize the need for investing in youth and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to foster economic growth, create jobs, drive innovation, and support local entrepreneurship.

He is also scheduled to participate in a special session on the “Humanitarian Crisis and Reconstruction Challenges in Gaza and Lebanon,” addressing the ongoing repercussions of Israeli aggression in the Middle East.

In addition to the summit, the prime minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with leaders from other member states.

Pakistan’s delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, established in Istanbul in 1997, aims to enhance collaboration among its eight member countries: Egypt, Nigeria, Turkiye, Pakistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iran, and Malaysia. The organization focuses on boosting economic growth, promoting sustainable development, and improving living standards by fostering cooperation in agriculture, trade, energy, transportation, industry, and tourism.
