Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a salary hike for members of Parliament, as reported by Express News on Friday.
The increase comes following recommendations from the Finance Committee, with the new salaries set to take effect in January. Under the updated arrangement, each member of Parliament will receive a monthly salary of Rs519,000.
However, it is noteworthy that the salaries of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly will remain unchanged. Both will continue to receive their current monthly pay of Rs218,000.
In response to inquiries, the Speaker’s office clarified that the Finance Committee does not have the authority to alter the salaries of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
