Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met on Tuesday to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and advancing shared interests.
The meeting, held at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi, was also attended by Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir. The discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in economic, trade, and development sectors, aligning with both nations’ vision for sustainable progress.
The leaders also emphasized the significance of the World Governments Summit in shaping global governance strategies, providing insights for governments to adapt to global transformations and drive development.
Both sides exchanged perspectives on regional and international matters, with a particular focus on the Middle East. They underscored the need for collaborative efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
During the summit, PM Shehbaz held high-level meetings with leaders from Sri Lanka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kuwait to discuss strengthening bilateral ties in trade, defense, and regional cooperation.
In his first face-to-face meeting with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on the sidelines of the summit in Dubai, the two leaders explored ways to enhance partnerships in trade, defense, and education. They acknowledged historical ties between their nations, with Dissanayake recalling the 1996 Cricket World Cup final held in Lahore.
“We are committed to fostering high-level exchanges and strengthening the goodwill between our countries,” PM Shehbaz stated.
Additionally, PM Shehbaz met Željka Cvijanovic, Chairperson of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency, to discuss boosting trade and economic cooperation. He expressed support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s aspirations for European Union membership and its potential role as a regional trade hub, offering new market opportunities for Pakistani exports in the Balkans and Eastern Europe.
“I look forward to deepening our economic ties, particularly in trade and investment,” Cvijanovic remarked.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister engaged in talks with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to explore avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a strong economic partnership and addressed key regional concerns, including the ongoing situation in Gaza.
“The ceasefire in Gaza must be fully enforced, and humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people must be expedited,” they agreed.
These diplomatic engagements underscore Pakistan’s continued efforts to strengthen global partnerships, enhance economic collaboration, and contribute to sustainable development and regional peace.
