Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Urges Easier Agricultural Loans and Enhanced Research to Boost Farming Productivity
On Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed relevant authorities to facilitate farmers by offering agricultural loans on more accessible terms. He also emphasized the importance of intensifying agricultural research to increase crop yields.
While leading a meeting focused on reforms in the agricultural sector in Islamabad, the Prime Minister highlighted the necessity of a sustainable, long-term policy that supports agro-industrial growth. This strategy aims to strengthen both agriculture and forestry while tackling climate change challenges.
Shehbaz Sharif called for a unified effort among provincial governments and key stakeholders to advance the sector and work toward achieving self-reliance. He pointed out Pakistanβs vast agricultural resources, fertile soil, and hardworking farmers, stressing that modernization of agriculture is crucial for national economic development.
He directed the responsible departments to create a National Agri-Innovation Plan and accelerate reforms in seed certification processes. Additionally, the Prime Minister underscored the need for a detailed action plan to promote the use of high-quality seeds.
During the meeting, the agricultural reforms working group shared their recommendations. The session included Federal Ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Musadik Malik, and other senior officials.
