Pakistan and Bangladesh have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
This consensus emerged during a meeting between Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, on the sidelines of the D-8 Summit in Cairo.
The leaders emphasized the need for closer collaboration to achieve shared development goals and highlighted the importance of fostering cultural and people-to-people exchanges, including interactions among artists, sportspersons, academics, and students.
Prime Minister Shehbaz welcomed recent developments such as Bangladesh’s cricket team’s visit to Pakistan and a Pakistani artist’s performance in Dhaka. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation on multilateral platforms, particularly within the D-8 framework.
Acknowledging the deep historical, religious, and cultural ties between their nations, Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s interest in strengthening trade, cultural connections, and interpersonal relations.
He identified opportunities for economic collaboration in sectors such as chemicals, cement clinkers, surgical goods, leather products, and IT. The Prime Minister commended Bangladesh for recent measures facilitating trade and travel, including the waiver of physical inspection requirements for Pakistani consignments and the removal of additional visa clearance protocols.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral relations and the growing frequency of high-level interactions between their countries.
