Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed officials to accelerate the privatization of government departments, ensuring that it is completed within the set timeline.
The instruction was given during a review meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, where officials discussed the Task Management System designed to oversee the privatization process, according to Radio Pakistan.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for complete transparency in the process and advised that reputable lawyers be engaged to address any legal obstacles. “We should hire credible legal experts to overcome any legal challenges in the privatization efforts,” he stated.
PM Shehbaz highlighted that the privatization initiative aligns with the government’s “Uraan Pakistan” program, stressing that the government’s role is to create policies that facilitate business and investment, not to run businesses directly. “The government’s responsibility is not to engage in business but to implement policies that encourage business and investment,” he added.
He also noted that Pakistan is making significant progress toward economic recovery, thanks to timely reforms, and urged collective efforts to push the nation’s development forward.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was updated on the Task Management System and the timeline for privatizing various government departments. The privatization will occur in three phases: the first phase will involve ten departments, the second phase will include thirteen, and the third phase will cover the remaining departments.
