PM Chairs Meeting to Include Investors in FBR’s Digital Reforms
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif recently presided over a key meeting focused on involving investors and exploring investment opportunities within the ongoing digital and structural reforms at the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). This session was part of the Digital Cooperation Conference.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister acknowledged the significant $700 million investment made in Pakistan’s IT sector through the Digital Investment Forum. He commended the expanding global presence and influence of Pakistan’s business community, noting that Pakistani IT entrepreneurs are making notable contributions to the global market.
“The potential of our nation to impact the global economy is immense,” the Prime Minister remarked, emphasizing Pakistan’s pool of world-class professionals across multiple sectors, particularly IT. He stressed that given the right opportunities, these individuals could drive remarkable results on both the domestic and global fronts.
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to incorporating Pakistan’s investor community into the reform process across key sectors, especially IT. “Our goal is to achieve long-term and sustainable economic growth through local investors,” he added.
To further this initiative, the Prime Minister instructed the organization of a dedicated webinar to inform IT sector investors about investment prospects within FBR’s digital reforms.
The meeting also included a detailed briefing on FBR’s ongoing digital reform initiatives, such as digital monitoring, track and trace systems, data analytics, and other related efforts. Several of these reforms have already been implemented successfully.
It was highlighted that over $100 million in investment opportunities are available in areas like digital invoicing, faceless technology, cargo tracking, and other advanced digital tools within FBR.
The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Secretary General of the Digital Cooperation Organization Deemah Al Yahya, as well as CEOs of international IT companies and senior government officials.
