BAKU:
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reached Baku on Sunday for a two-day official visit to Azerbaijan, aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
Upon his arrival at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, the prime minister was warmly welcomed by high-ranking Azerbaijani officials, including First Deputy Prime Minister Yaqub Abdulla oglu Eyyubov, Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Khazar Farkhadov, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin, along with other dignitaries.
During his stay, PM Shehbaz is set to meet Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and other senior officials to discuss key areas of cooperation. The agenda includes enhancing trade and investment, boosting collaboration in the energy sector, addressing climate change challenges, strengthening defense partnerships, and promoting cultural exchanges.
Several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two countries.
As part of his engagements, the prime minister will also attend the Pakistan-Azerbaijan Business Forum on Monday, where he and Azerbaijani leaders will interact with business representatives from both countries. The forum aims to explore opportunities for trade expansion, investment, and joint ventures, with a focus on fostering business-to-business (B2B) collaboration.
Pakistan and Azerbaijan share a strong bond based on shared values and mutual interests. This visit highlights the commitment of both nations to deepening their bilateral relationship, strengthening economic cooperation, and working together on regional and global challenges.
Accompanying the prime minister is a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Investment & Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi.
Upon landing in Baku, PM Shehbaz took to social media, expressing admiration for the city’s beauty, saying, “Landed in the stunning city of Baku, where history and modernity blend seamlessly. The city looks even more mesmerizing under a blanket of snow!”
He further shared his enthusiasm for the visit, stating, “Looking forward to meaningful discussions aimed at further strengthening the historic ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, as well as exploring new avenues for trade and investment cooperation.”
