PIA Privatization Gaining Pace, Says Minister

ISLAMABAD:
Federal Minister for Privatisation, Board of Investment, and Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has assured that all concerns raised by stakeholders regarding the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have been effectively addressed. In a press statement issued on Thursday, the minister revealed that the government is making necessary adjustments to align with investor preferences, ensuring a smooth privatisation process for the national flag carrier.

“A new roadmap is being introduced to enhance the appeal of PIA’s privatisation, with all stages of the process anticipated to be completed within the next three months,” the minister stated. He added that the resumption of PIA flights to Europe has significantly improved the airline’s prospects, making it a more attractive investment opportunity. This development is expected to boost expressions of interest from potential investors.

Aleem Khan highlighted recent measures that have set PIA on a path to profitability. He also announced that, following the reintroduction of flights to Europe, the airline plans to resume operations to the United Kingdom within the next three months. Subsequent phases will include expanding services to the United States and the Far East.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to restoring PIA’s credibility, the minister emphasized that the airline remains the preferred choice for travel among Pakistan’s 240 million citizens. He expressed optimism that these strategic steps would help PIA reclaim its former glory and position as a leading national carrier.
