PIA Crash Survivor Recounts Harrowing Experience in ‘Seat 1C’

LAHORE:
Zafar Masud, one of the two survivors of the tragic 2020 PIA plane crash in Karachi, has shared his reflections and experiences in his memoir, Seat 1C: A Survivor’s Tale of Hope, Resilience, and Renewal.

Co-authored with Syeda Amna Hasan, the book was officially launched at the Lahore Literary Festival on Saturday.

When asked about his motivation for writing the memoir, Masud explained, “The lessons I learned from this life-altering event are uniqueβ€”ones I hope no one else ever has to experience firsthand. I wanted to share my journey after the crash, offering insight into what it feels like to come so close to death, how it changes your perspective, and what truly matters in life.”

Discussing the pursuit of a regret-free life, particularly from a faith-based perspective, Masud noted that there is no universal formula. He emphasized that personal priorities differ for each individual.

However, he highlighted the importance of choosing goals that create a meaningful and positive impact, not just for oneself but also for society. He urged people to ensure that their aspirations do not come at the cost of others’ well-being, happiness, or success.
