The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to relocate the ODI tri-series featuring Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa from Multan to Lahore and Karachi. The series, originally set to begin on February 8, will now take place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and the National Stadium in Karachi. This change aligns with the PCB’s confidence in the readiness of these upgraded venues, especially as preparations are underway for the Champions Trophy, set to start on February 19.
The relocation decision was made after significant progress in renovations at both stadiums. The Gaddafi Stadium and National Stadium are being enhanced for the upcoming international events. While these upgrades caused some disruptions, including the movement of certain Test matches, they are considered essential as Pakistan prepares to host its first ICC event in nearly three decades. Key improvements at Gaddafi Stadium include an expanded capacity of 35,000, new digital replay screens, and upgraded player and hospitality areas. The National Stadium in Karachi has undergone similar enhancements, and Rawalpindi’s stadium has also seen minor upgrades.
The PCB has reassured fans that all renovations will be completed on time, with the Gaddafi Stadium set to be inaugurated in late January. As for the Champions Trophy, most of the 15 matches will be held in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi, with the remaining games—featuring India—set to take place in Dubai. This arrangement is part of the hybrid model developed due to the Indian government’s refusal to allow its team to travel to Pakistan.
