KARACHI: The decision by Sindh’s Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education to hold the annual class 9th and 10th exams in March has sparked concern among students, parents, and teachers. The exams are set to coincide with the holy month of Ramadan, leading many to question the timing.
Parents argue that most students in these grades are around 18 years old, and many will be fasting during Ramadan. They expressed concerns that the dual pressure of fasting and preparing for exams would leave students struggling to manage both. Fasting during Ramadan is a time for spiritual reflection and worship, and the early exam schedule is seen as disruptive.
Students are requesting that the exam dates be rescheduled to after Eidul Fitr, allowing them to focus on their religious duties and exam preparation. They believe the government should take into account the cultural and religious aspects of the country when planning such events.
Parents also believe that the government could easily shift the exams to April without much difficulty, but the current schedule would create significant challenges for students. They are urging the Sindh Chief Minister, Governor, Minister of Education, and the relevant boards to reconsider the exam dates and address their concerns.
