Pakistani Trade Delegation Visits Bangladesh After 12-Year Hiatus

A Pakistani trade delegation, headed by Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), visited Bangladesh after a 12-year break. The primary focus of the visit was to strengthen bilateral economic relations and explore investment opportunities between the two countries.

During the visit, the delegation held discussions with Sheikh Bashiruddin, Bangladesh’s Commerce Minister, where they emphasized the importance of enhancing trade ties and promoting mutual investments. FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh described the visit as the beginning of a new chapter, expressing Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh in future endeavors. He also mentioned that Bangladesh’s Commerce Minister had shown a clear intention to prioritize trade relations with Pakistan.

Saqib Fyaz Magoo, FPCCI Senior Vice President, welcomed the relaxation of visa restrictions for Pakistanis by Bangladesh and advocated for the issuance of long-term visas for the Pakistani business community. He noted that Pakistan had also eased visa regulations for Bangladeshi nationals.

Bangladesh’s Commerce Minister Sheikh Bashiruddin reiterated the commitment to deepening economic, industrial, and trade relations with Pakistan. He confirmed that both nations had agreed to take steps to boost bilateral trade and encourage Pakistani businesses to engage with Bangladesh more actively.

The meeting was also attended by Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Syed Ahmed Maroof.
